Kigali, Gisenyi and Kibuye Tour Overview

This safari includes both a visit to the gorillas and the Chimpanzees. The tour also includes a visit to the beautiful white-sanded beaches of Lake Kivu in northwestern Rwanda – a perfect winding up of a tour. Volcanoes National Park, is best known for the Mountain Gorilla. Other mammals found in the park include: golden monkey, black-fronted duiker, buffalo, Spotted Hyena and bushbuck. There are 178 recorded bird species, with at least 13 species and 16 subspecies endemic to the virunga and Ruwenzori Mountains.

Nyungwe National Park covers 1000sq km of protected, rare montane forest of unrivalled biodiversity. Among other natural marvels, this virgin forest is home to 13 species of primates, 100 varieties of orchids, about 300 species of birds and a river that is one of the sources of the Nile. The numerous hiking trails are ideal for primate trackers, botanists and bird-lovers.

Kigali, Gisenyi and Kibuye Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival Kigali

Arrive Kanombe Airport, Kigali, where you will be met by our representative and transferred to the Serena Hotel. Check in and day at leisure with an opportunity to take optional excursions depending on time of arrival you will have a briefing before you are picked up and taken for dinner at a local restaurant. Day 2

Kigali - Nyungwe National Park

After an early breakfast, drive south 136Km with a stop at the traditional seat of the monarchy. Visit Royal Palace in Nyanza restored entirely of traditional materials to its 19th century state. Continue to the university town of Butare where you will visit the National Museum which houses perhaps the best ethnographic collection in East and Central Africa. Day 3

Full Day Nyungwe National Park

After an early breakfast, this morning track deep into Nyungwe forest for the Chimpanzees after which you return to Gisakura Guest House for lunch. In the afternoon you will take a tour of the tea plantation, returning to your guest house for dinner and overnight. Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe

Day 4

Nyungwe National Park / Kibuye / Gisenyi

After breakfast drive to Kibuye along the shores of Lake Kivu to arrive in time for lunch at Moriah Lake Resort while enjoying the beautiful scenery. After lunch you will commence your scenic boat ride to the lake shore town of Gisenyi. Dinner and overnight Gisenyi

Day 5

Gisenyi / Volcanoes National Park

A very early start (0500am) with picnic breakfast for your drive to Volcanoes National Park. At 0700hrs briefings at the park offices for your track for the Golden Monkeys, your driver will then take you to the starting point of the track and wait for your return. After lunch take a scenic drive to view the twin lakes, Ruhondo and Burera. Dinner and overnight Ruhengeli.

Day 6

Volcanoes National Park / Kigali

After an early breakfast you will head to the park offices at 0700hrs you will be allocated a gorilla group followed by a briefing by tracking guide, after your briefing your driver will drive you to the starting point of your track where he will wait for your return. After a magical hour
